I am going to be racing some Hare Scrambles and Enduros in western Iowa this year. Does anyone on here ride in them? I need advice on what to expect, and what I need, as I'm new to this.
There has been a few problems with the iera22.com website due to the Internet Service Provider that hosts it. Please be patient, not all of it works like it should. If you have any specific questions on how to get ready, just ask.
Our first race is this weekend at Keithsburg IL, just on the Mississippi. Very sandy, very rough, but I've been told to expect a lot of new sections of trail.
Hope you can make the drive, it is one "unusual" race, guys either love it or hate it.
I'm not going to be able to make it to the race in IL, but I do plan on making it to Fremont. I've never raced before, so I'm not sure what mods need to be made. I think I've got it covered with a good skid plate and bark busters. I've also got an oversize gas tank that I will use for the races. Are there any things beyond full safety equipment that you can think of? Thanks for the help.
I recommend a drink system, you need to keep hydrated even in the cooler winter months. I like my Summer's Racing 70 oz job, I never run out of something to drink.
My only tip is don't stop moving forward during the race, a slow pace that you can maintain is always better than stopping due to crashes, fatigue, pit stops or getting stuck. Use your head and you will beat the guys who aren't using theirs!
A buddy and I are coming to Keithsburg to race. When you say rough what do you mean? Just looking for a little help with set up. Is there any riding allowed the day before the race? I've never raced a hare scrambles so I really don't know what to expect. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
If you went to Keithsburg don't get the impression that all hare scrambles are like that one. It's one of a kind thank goodness. You might say that it is more of a two hour mx but with no jumps. Just constant whoops! I don't think you will find many people that like it. They just go because it is the first race of the season and of course, it pays points.
It was'nt the most fun I've ever had, but the weather sure was nice. The guys running the event seemed like a good bunch. There were sections of the course that were really fun but you had to go through a bunch of nasty sand whoops to get to them. I don't think I'll be making the 40th annual race. Looking forward to a good long trail ride in Michigan next.
