iPod help!!!

I bought my wife an iPod Nano a few months ago and loaded up about 80 songs on my work PC with iTunes. I decided it would be more convenient to just use iTunes at home so she can load music easily from home. So I downloaded iTunes and imported two CD's. When I plugged in her iPod it told me that it was linked to another iTunes (work). It said I could link to the current iTunes on my home PC, but that it would replace all 80 songs with the two CD's I just imported. Is there any way around this? I really don't want to burn 80 songs to CD's at work just to bring them home and import them into the home iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have it plugged into the computer, open Itunes (or it will automatically). Then choose file and use either "add file to library" or "add folder to library". Then locate the area on the ipod where the music is and choose it. The songs will be labeled weird stuff like CBRA325, or whatever. Once you pick it and it starts to process it, they will come out correct. Then just disconnect your Ipod and see if the songs are still on your hard drive.
I just ran into this the other day and it took me like 1-1/2 hour to figure it out. I going off of memory, so post back if this works or if you need more direction.

It didn't work. I tried it yesterday and couldn't get it to work either. I can select the files and then select "add to library" but when the box pops up, the iPod isn't listed as a place I can add it to. I'm stumped. Thanks for the attempt though.

My kid had the same problem .....I cant remember where exactly or even the process but it was something like unlocking the library or ipod....Wish I could be more help.

Im picking him up today. If he has his Ipod I will check it out and post back.

Ipods can be a hassle. They make it hard to use with multiple pcs because they feel like it would be too easy for people to "share" music. You should be able to look in the iTunes preference option of the new pc and tell it not to delete...I'll check it out and give you more detail. But I found this sweet program called CopyPod (google it). What it does is transfer everything on your iPod to your computer very easily. Last Christmas everything in iTunes got erased by accident...we are talking about 2,800 songs! CopyPod worked like a charm and saved me weeks of cd importing..

I'm going nuts now!!! I used CopyPod which I thought worked. I copied everything off of the iPod and backed it up into the iTunes library. So I reconnected the iPod and it asked if I wanted to delete what was on it and replace it with the current library. I clicked OK assuming that all of the songs (old and new) would then go on the iPod. But it did exactly what I didn't want it to do. It erased everything from the iPod and only updated it with the two discs that I imported this morning. I have no clue what to do now. I plug in her iPod (Michelle's iPod) and I can see it in iTunes, but I can't get any music from the other playlists onto her iPod. I've tried several different ways to import, ad files, copy, etc. and none of it is working. Looks like I've got some disc burning to do. :(

These songs must be encoded somehow. I keep trying to get them back onto the iPod and it tells me all of the old songs (from the iPod) are not allowed to play on this computer. Which is ridiculous because I can play them through iTunes, I just can't get them onto the damn iPod anymore. Thanks for the help anyway guys. I thought you had me pretty close a couple of times.

I have two ipods. A 15g and a mini. You have to use method two listed in this link http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432 prior to using CopyPod.You are telling iTunes just to update one of the iPods with a certain playlist and not to erase. If you used CopyPod everything on that iPod should have been moved to iTunes...so I can't see why you only have the 2 cd's you imported. With only 80 songs (what 10-12 cds) I would just import as normal if you can....but if you are going to connect 2 ipods to one pc you have to use method two listed in the above link. As far as not being able to play songs...I dont know what to say about that. If you got them from the itunes store you are able to authorize them on up to 5 pcs. The easy work around is just to burn a disk..that eliminates the copy protection.

I'm actually not trying to use 2 iPods on 1 computer. I'm trying to use 1 iPod on two different computers and I think that's where the problem is coming from. CopyPod actually worked like it's supposed to. All the songs that were previously on her iPod are now in iTunes on the home computer. I move them into the Recently Added folder and I'm telling it to update only from that folder. But it tells me I'm not authorized to use the songs on this computer. They're all songs I bought from iTunes, so it's weird. It's actually not that bad since she didn't have a lot of stuff on there already. I'll probably end up burning discs and importing them again at home like you suggested. Thanks a lot for your time and your help!

If all else fails you could try this, this is how I got all of my music between 2 computers. The Ipod is hard drive based so you can use it like a memory stick. Plug it into the first computer, open my computer, and open the Ipod program that comes up, copy and paste the 2 cd's into that folder....these songs are now stored on your Ipod. Now put the Ipod back onto the other computer, and open my computer again. The music from the other computer should be there. Take paste the music onto your desktop or folder or whereever you want it and click on the songs. They should open up in Itunes, click update and you are good to go. I hope that made sense, it is actually very easy. You can also use this to transport computer games, word documents, powerpoint files....ect.

Yeah it should work great, like I said it's how I transfer all of my music between computers and I've never had problems doing it that way.

I found a simple fix to this whole ordeal last weekend! My computer was telling me that the old songs (loaded onto the iPod from a different computer) weren't authorized to play on my home computer. I accidentally double-clicked on one of the "unauthorized" songs and it asked me for my e-mail address and iTunes password. It then said that all of the songs were now authorized on my home computer. It also said that you can authorize purchased or downloaded music on up to 5 different computers. So it turned out to be a simple fix.

I thought I'd have a problem with multiple Mac and multiple phones (SLVR's w/iTunes) ... never had any issues sharing the library between them all.
