A 100 would be a better choice than an 85. The 100s have larger wheels. It's still going to be a bit on the small side, but if you're comfortable on it, that's the main thing.

For 2500 you can get a decent 2002 125 or 250 and the advantage would be the green sticker. But with the 80-100 you are too tall. Your a full size person get a full size bike. It's hard to do a lot of things on smaller bikes like jumping cornering and even standing up while riding.

i would definitely go with a 125 2 stroke. you're actually about perfect size. with $2500 you could get a nice 2004-2003 or under, maybe even a 2005 if you got an amazing deal.

he lives in SoCal. with that "green sticker" law, but you should easily be able to find a good used 2003 125 2T for less than $2500, i was 5'4'' when i bought my 125  , so you shouldnt have much of a problem. steer clear of the Yamaha's and KTM's though. the YZ's are tall and on the expensive side, and the KTM's are the opposite of what a begginer wants in a dirt bike. insane power, a fairly bad suspension setup, and their heavy, plus their usually backed with a bigger price tag than the other 125's. for 2003, the KX and RM very good compared to the competition. the KX has low-mid power while the RM has mid-range power. the Honda was the worst of the lot '00-'04, so try to find a good used Kawasaki or Suzuki.

yeah the yz 125's are a bit taller. dude me and you are the same height. the yz is the tallest 125 and I can still ride that thing no problem. Get a yz rm cr kx or whatever 125. thats your best bet. an 85 would be way to small. and once your skill gets a bit better that kx100 will also suck. 125 all the way. bottom line get a 125. you are the perfect size for a 125

im 5'6" 150lbs and im going for the KX250. i've ridden the KX125 and it has some bottom end but not alot. it has more mid-high range power. once you crack the throttle past halfway in any gear it gets up and leaves. but until you get on the pipe in the trails you'll be giving the clutch lever a good workout.

i say go for a 125 or 250. the YZ's are the tallest. get something like a CR, RM, KX.

i got a good deal on a 02 yz250f 1950 and it a little tall would it be worth it to shave the seat

no, it isnt. your bike will look like crap after your dont shaving it and the early model YZ250F's arent known for reliability. get a 125 like i previously stated. their dirt cheap right now, so look around.

kawicam250, you beat me to it this time :)

The early 250Fs were horrible heaviy and have this boring XR related power. Plus have fun with that $1500 :yikes: topend job this coing year while the 2 stroke is near the $100-200 rand for a topend
