The xr 50's wouldn't run without the choke on about 1/4 of the way on today . It was right around 40 degrss, is this normal for this type of weather ?
Thanks,

Yes! Instead of pulling the choke, richin up your airscrew (turn in about 1/4 turn) and try again without the choke. As the warm weather comes again you'll need to readjust again. Also give your bike plenty of time to warm up (idling) before riding to prevent cold seizures...which could ruin your day. :uh:

Four-strokes have fuel screws, as opposed to air screws. You would want to turn the screw out (counterclockwise) to richen the mixture.

Cold seizing an XR 50 is not likely, but you should be gentle with any engine until it's fully warmed up. The warm-up process is much shorter if you ride the bike gently instead of letting it idle.

Doh...Vics right about the fuel screw thing. I have two-stroke fever and forgot that you have an XR 4 banger. My bad.

Easy way to tell if you have an air screw or fuel screw is to look at the carb, if the screw is on the air cleaner side aft of the throttle slide then its an airscrew. If the screw is on the engine side before the throttle slide then its a fuel screw.

As Vic mentioned, turning "out" a fuel screw like on your carb will "richen" the mix. On an air screw it is the opposite. :clue:
