I'm doing my first race on january 13 with the NorthWest Arenacross nationals. I'm gonna race in the 85 beginner, the race manager says they let the CRF150R race in any of the 85 classes. I dont know how I will do, I've ridden some tracks, and i practiced my dirt starts all day yesterday with my friend. We just dropped the gate for each other and drew a line about 50 feet away and timed each other. I'm really exited but nervous at the same time. Is this normal for the first race. :whoa:

Being a beginner at a lot of stuff the past couple of years, I know it's common to be excited/nervous. Usually in the end you wonder what the heck you were so nervous about, because after the first lap you'll get into a rythym. And it'll all be smooth sailing from there. It's good to have confidence, but don't get too confident. Do what you know, see how it all rolls out. After the race, you'll see where on the track you're weak and where you're strong. Then you'll have something to work on. Last but not least, have fun!

That feeling up on the line hopefully will never go away! Thats a heavy dose of adrenalin. You should really practice on a indoor track first! Any kind, an outdoor track setup arena style. Have someone video the expierance. Good Luck!

150r guy is going to have a harder time having a first race indoors, alot of riders can't or don't like it. Outdoors is more natural and safer. Have fun and have someone tape it if you can. (was that long enough?)

Areanacross is about as tight and technical as you'll get where lifts are 2:1 and landings aren't forgiving. Generally outdoor faces are 3:1 (not as pitched) and most landings are rolled somewhat (won't hurt as much when cased). Outdoors once built weather and become even "safer", Arenacross is groomed to keep the track condition.

150rguy... don't be surprised if you can't keep you leg(s) from shaking, the other 40 guy's are feeling the same. Your lucky, you'll experience something many that weekend will only get to watch. Beginner class is about as tough as it gets... point being; obviously most will lack the experience which leads to a lot of banging around... remember no one (almost no one) will play tag with you intentionally so keep your temper in check. +++ Thank god or someone of your choice everytime you finish on the bike and walk back to the pits.

In so far as starts, watch a few of the earlier races... you may find that letting the bulk of the riders shoot the hole serves to swing them right (outside) leaving an opening on the inside of the left turn. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't... do it this way at least you'll make the turn without being taken out.

On amature day the faces and landing are ground so don't be intimidated by the track on Friday or Saturday. Stay on your seat the entire race and you'll pick up 3-4 positions, ride smart and pick lines carefully... another 1-2 positions. You'll get at least two moto's... have fun. Do yourself a favor, don't brag, or tell everyone I'm gonna jump this and do that... it's only more pressure.

Good Luck...

yes, it's normal for every race. Just find a good place to puke before the start and get it over with.

Thanks. lol. I can't practice today because it's raining. I don't expect to do very good. Thanks for the advice from everyone.

150rguy what did u place in your race??

First race. I was in the wrong race and came in last by about A LOT.

second race. I fell twice. but somehow managed to pull second

Third race. was the best. Me on my Kawi and this other kid on his suzuki where passing each other on every other turn. I passed him in the whoops section on the last lap. When we came up to the finish it was a photo finish! :) I won by a few feet.
that was a great race! Even the flagger came down and said that that was a great race, the best race he had seen in a while. He said it looked like JBS and RC racin.

So i got the holeshot and was in first for 3 laps, going through the whoops a kid on the exact same bike that i was on was tring to pass me i sped up leaneed forward and BANG I was over the bars. It took me a minute to start, then I finished ninth. But now atleast i know I like racing and im not that bad either.
