Just bought a dirt bike

Hi, I just bought a small 125 4 stroke dirt bike on Monday and have never ridden before. I have been tearing around the yard for a couple of days and took it out in the woods for an hour yesterday. My biggest problem was deep puddles and figuring out when to shift. I did alright I think for my first time out, but I feel like I need some advice on riding. I race mountain bikes so I am very comfortable on this bike as it is really small. Also, if there are any people in CT that wouldn't mind going out on a few slow rides it would be greatly appreciated. :worship: :laugh:

The Damn Yankee Dirt Riders are a great bunch of guys and gals of all different skill levels and they're a hoot to ride with! You should definitely hook up with them to ride!

Welcome to the site. The ttr125 is a great bike to start on. I found it to be a very user friendly bike for a beginner (this is my first year of riding a bike too). I don't worry too much about all the shifting when to's myself ,but I have noticed the more I ride the better I feel like I'm improving. I'm finding that knowing when to shift is starting to just click into place on it's own without thinking about it. You'll get the hang of it all. So just go out and have fun riding :ride: & enjoy the site. :)

I actually adjusted the shifter up a bit to make room for my boots and I seem to be having a much easier time now. The bike is definately fun. I wish it were a bit faster, but, being new at this having a slower bike is probably a good idea. I practice riding it everyday and am finally feeling comfortable being on it. Now I just need to work on skill and that comes with just riding it! I have been smiling for over a week now! I can't believe how much fun it is to ride! It will be really fun when I can go out and keep up with everyone, soon it will happen! :) ;)

i think its awsome ur riding and starting now.....dirt biking is one of the best sports out there...all i can say to u is dont let people judge you....ive been riding for 5 years and people still give me grief becuz im a cheerleader and they dont think that i can handle a bike......just be yourself and the biking part will come naturally lol

Don't miss out on all the great posts in the Women's forum. I too started on a TTR125 and I now ride a CRF250X after a year and a half. I can't imagine life without riding now. :laugh: I took a class and it really helped. Ask around where you ride and I'm sure there will be someone willing to give you some tips. I got my tips from the school and they seemed to sink in better than when my husband (supposedly) told me the same things.
Mostly what has helped me is riding as MUCH as possible.
