KD80 running weird...carb....

Getting my latest project together, a 1986 KD80 (rotary valve engine).

It starts, but will only idle...if you give it ANY normal throttle, it bogs. IF you are VERY light and gradual with the throttle, it will rev up nicely. But i mean you have to nudge it up.....


I checked the float level already. It also seems to be spitting raw gas OUT the carb. I know these things have an inborn negative pulse issue but it should not throw gas out like that. You can feel the puffs coming out the carb too.

I pulled the carb and put my palm over the intake hole, and then kicked it over. The vacuum pulling against my hand was not as strong as I think it should be, and I also I felt the air coming back out against my hand also.

Anybody got any ideas? Im thinking low compression off hand...have not measured it-dont have a gauge that works although it feels pretty good.

I tried another carb that I had laying around, from an MC1 which was VERY simlar to the KD. It acted the same, so I tend to think its not a carb issue

does it have a set of reeds that are bad?
if reeds are bad it will give a low compression reading as well - start here

sounds to be like you put the rotor on on it the wrong position...

sorry i forgot about the rotory/ side carb thing-lol
yeaaa buddy they have to be in the right spot or it wont work, it works with the ignition timing
