I bought a '95 200 recently. The motor started fine and sounded OK (not loose or other bad sounds). So, I tore the bike (not the motor)apart to replace bearings, new paint/plastics and such. Now, though, when I rode it, it didn't feel like it had any bottom-end power (and the top-end wasn't quite what I expected either). I first checked the KIPS valves and they seemed to be moving open/closed, but had small gaps (not fully closing?) when closed. I pulled the top end off to find that the piston had been seized (at least once) on the intake side (cold seizure?). And, when I looked closely at the cylinder, I found that the sleeve must have been replaced once because it wasn't lined up to the cylinder correctly. And to remedy this (i think) someone used a dremel to shape the sleeve to the ports. The inner bridges on the intake side are thin now, and have cracks in them. It looks as if I'm buying a new cylinder (not sure this one can be re-sleeved) and piston. Will a 220 cylinder fit on this motor, or is it worth it? Thanks for any input--

Another option is look into a 225 kit & porting work from Eric at Forward Motion. Seems like the perfect time since you need a re-sleeve and the ports need cleaned up

But, to answer your question.
The KDX from '95 to now is realatively unchanged, and the only difference between the 200 and the 220 is the top end. So you can slap a 200 or 220 cylinder on your bottomw end.

Another problem with the KIPS

I took my side case off today and was sickened at the sight. Some knucklehead (whoever owned/worked on it before me) removed the whole centrifugal advancer mechanism (shaft etc). I guess I'll buy the assy piece-by-piece. I doubt if anyone would have one "sitting around".
