I have ridden both the 220 & the 200 and I like the feel of the 200 motor. I am looking at buying an engine for a Hybrid project and I found a guy that is selling 2003 220 for a good price. Can I use the bottom end of a 220 with 200 top end? If I buy the 220 motor and replace the cylinder, piston and head with a 200, will I get the 200 performance?

almost .......add the bigger carb from the 200 and your there but expensively

I would just run the 220 till it blows then make your changes...there could be quite a bit of tunning on one of your "test rides" its hard to compare but from what Ive read the 200 is a better base for performance and people with 220's seem to have more problems in general

I would agree with sr5bidder EXPENSIVELY. But I know this can done on older kdx's don't know about newer ones, I have kind of the same work done on mine. It was a lot of screwing around and tuning.

where did you read that? they are basically the same. 220 piston grenade problems are the only reliability difference.

right. And the 220 piston grenading is just a minor issue........
not anymore, the 220 has been out of production long enough to go thru at least one top end cycle, wiseco's or any replacement piston other than o.e.m. doesn't have the problem.
