Hey all - a friend's KDX 220 just broke the piston skirt; motor locked up, poof. A top end was on the short list of things to do (new-to-him bike), but had not gotten done.
Dammit.
However - that brings us to "what next?" Three options:
1. Split cases, new crank/rod, reassemble.
2. Bolt in a KX250 motor?
3. Start over, which sucks, as the 220 is a pretty nice example.
Does a KX250 engine bolt into the 220? That'd be interesting.
Thoughts?
Has anyone had luck splitting the cases, removing the rest of the piston, cleaning & reassembling? Seems like a bad idea to me, but rocking the rod back and forth, everything feels ok down there.
Thanks!
Iain
