I was wondering if this is possible or if any body has ever tried to swap a 220 cylinder and head to a 200 motor. If this works is it more feasible than getting boring and plating done? If this can't be done then howcome?
It SHOULD work, but first price a new cylinder. Boring & replating is going to be a lot cheaper --you may have to grind on the face of the powervalve just a bit though.
Swapping a 200 head for a 220 wouldnt make up for Boring and Plating the cylinder.I couldnt think of any benefit you would get from changing just the head. Please correct me if I`m wrong.
You`ll come away much cheaper Boring and Plating unless you have a spare 03 220 cylinder laying around. It would work though. The bikes are basically identical. A new cylinder head probably runs around 450$ and the head about 150$.
Porting on the 220 is totally different than the 200, hence the 220 is torquier. I've compaired side by side the 200 and 220 barrels and they are like night and day. So, if you are wanting to torque up the 200 then O.K. If you are looking to make it a MX type, then bore, port, mill head and squish band. A swap is very easy either way just using stock KDX parts though.
Thanks allot for all of your replies. I am happy with the current mods made to my KDX but, in the future I could see myself wanting a bigger displacement for the motor. Still, my KDX200 has plenty of power, speed and torque despite what some critics say about the KDX.
If you do a search re: something like "Eric Gorr 225 kit" you'll come up with more info. like the thread below. Sounds like the 225 kit is the way to go, especially if you already have the 200 motor.
