Kennedy Meadows-Worth going or burned out?

I've never been to Kennedy Meadows but people say it's awesome! I've got a chance to go with my son at the end of this month, but I heard it was burned out pretty bad. Does anyone know if that wrecked everything as far a pretty scenery for camping goes?
I suppose the trail would still be ridable but it sure sounded neat t be able to ride in teh trees in So-Cal!
