looks like you need to remove the cover over the kick starter and go from there.

you should look for a repair manual or go on-line and see if you can find a parts explosion site. i do not know where a ktm site is, i use www.powersportspro.com for my yamaha's.

sorry, i could not be of any more help......

Same thing happened to my buddy.

You have to take off the whole side cover, water pump, etc. You need to drain the oil and anti-freeze too. There is a little latch right off the shaft that breaks. The part didn't cost too much, but you will need new gaskets when you put the thing back together.

Have fun,

Looks like it's a semi-common problem with around that year. I too had a riding buddy who's 1990 KTM 250 kick started wouldn't engage. Took him 4 months to get the part, they had none in the USA or Canada. :silly:

I just did this w/ my 96 yz125...my part was called the kick axle assembly and the flange broke...very inexpensive part on my bike although the part was relatively complex. the replacement is easy but it is not stable until the case is on...I tried and tried to weld my old one but it would not hold and since the part was so cheap I just replaced it. Good Luck
