1998 KTM300 MXC. I just tore down the top end on 300 to check things out. Everything looks great. I don't have a shop manual so I have a couple of questions.

1. Ring replacement or not? I checked the ring end gap and it is well withen tolerances(.34mm) of .30mm to .40mm. Is there any reason to replace the rings or should I save the new set for later?

2. Piston clearance.......The manual says .06mm. Is that the maximum or minimum. I'm guessing it's the max allowable but doesn't there have to be a minimum also?

Also, could someone tell me what .06mm is converted to inches..my measuring tools are not metric.

Thanks

For #2, I come up with .00236 inches, or .0024. Or, .06/25.4 (mm/mm per inch). That sounds about right if I remember what I've read from Eric in the past. Might better get confirmation on that number, however.

Divide your SAE measurements by .03937 and that should give you the equivelant metric number in mm's. Example: .002633/.03937 = .06 (mm).
