KX screams when started with choke?

When I pull the choke out to start my 01 KX250 while cold, the bike usually starts on the first or second kick, but the engine races/screams until I push the choke back in :yikes: . I've owned a lot of 2 strokes, but none of my other bikes acted like this. If the bike is warmed up and I pull the choke the bike revs faster but it no longer screams. Anyone have any idea why the choke would cause a cold starting bike to rev so hard at first?

A lean pilot circuit will do exactly that. Either you can go a step or two richer pilot jet, or if the bike runs fine when warm, just cycle the kill switch on and off to keep the revs down until it's warm enough to run without the choke.
