Okee..here's one I don't know..

I just ran down a 99' KX80..the guy says he put in a 100 kit...although looking at the cylinder, it says 99cc's...

Now, I am not an expert on lil bikes, but how does a 99cc cylinder mount up to the cases of an 80? I thought there was really a "kit" such as crank and stuff that made it a "100"...

So my question is this, since the bike runs like crap, and supposedly it's a new bottom end and top end. Is this how you get a "100" out of an 80? I checked my buddies bike that has the 100 kit, and his cylinder is actually 82 cc's...

The top end didn't look new when I took it off, looks worn..wondering if I just need a new piston/rings.. but I don't wanna replace that if the cylinder is wrong for this application.. thanx.. j-bo

the cylinder with 82cc is an 80cc motor bored to accept the larger piston assembly. I think the 99cc cylinder was pulled from a kx100 and put onto the 80 bottom end. if he purchased a kit from the dealer it very well might have been a cylinder and piston assembly in the kit...
call your local dealer to find out more :thumb:

Local dealer? haahahaaaaa :silly: ...don't have one..

More on the "kit"....I am supposing that this kit includes piston/ring/cylinder/gaskets etc... Is any mod's done to the crank too, or is this kit just a bolt on kit? also do you need to make any mod's to the head? And... when purchasing new piston/rings.. I would also suppose that I get a KX100 wiseco set correct? thanx again.. j-bo

pretty sure that when the bigger piston was installd the squish clearance had to be made larger. so they probably opend the head up a bit.

KX 80 and KX 100 cylinders are interchangeable so it is a real easy way to get more HP out of the KX80 when junior isn't big enough for a 125 but wants more power.

I may be wrong, but the 100 might have a longer rod than the 80? Check on the kawasaki website in the parts section to see if the KX 80 and KX 100 have the same rod part number. Also check the specs for '99 and see what the bore and stroke is on the KX 80 and KX 100. You might find that the two have the same bore, just more stroke on the KX 100? But then again, maybe not if your buddy's bored out 82cc to a 99cc uses the same piston as the stock 99cc jug. That would lead me to believe the bore is bigger on the 100, but the stroke and rod are the same.

I'd be interested to hear what you find out!
