Leak Spray That Won't Peel Paint?

Hi Fellas,
I suspect an air leak causing a high idle condition and I want to spray something around the gaskets, etc to listen for a change in idle.
Problem is that the engine is freshly painted with high temp and I know what will happen if I start spraying carb cleaner around there.
Does anyone know if quick start will peel paint as well or is it easier on the chemicals than a cleaner solution?
Does anyone have any other alternatives to these chemicals that will leave my paint job intact?

Ethyl ether (starting fluid) should leave the paint intact, but be very carefull with it. It is some very volatile stuff. Use it sparingly, you will know for sure if you have a leak.
