Several months ago we were riding at Muenster and were preparing to leave. My son-in-law,who rides a WR400 & had brought it in the back of his 2002 Dodge 4-door long bed truck(tailgate being over 3ft. off the ground), yelled at me" Perry, I'm living on the edge!" :aj: He fired up his bike & arround the truck he went. He proceeded up the 2x6 ramp. When the front tire got on the tailgate, he stopped. Well there was only thing he could do then & off the side he fell. I had to pick the bike up off him. He was ok nothing hurt(except his pride). :ugg: So every time I see him now I ask him if he is still "Living on the edge?" :thumb:

Ive seen someone try to ride his bike into the back of his truck but when he tried to stop the tires skided on the metal bed and he went flying over the cab of his pickup. The rider, bike and pickup were all fine but man was he quiet after that stunt.

I always run my Cr500 up in the back of my truck. But I have a wide steel ramp and shut the bike off coming up to the truck, rolling up nicely in the back. One time it was raining and I did misjudge the thing just a bit and bumped the bed a might but no problems.

Ramp riders make my day. I'm in the glass business, and I've seen dozens of broken windows that were caused by bikes and quads slamming into the back of truck cabs.

Some truck back glasses cost as much as $700-$800. :yeehaw:

Just make sure someone is there to video-tape your ride up the ramp, and incase of any mishaps you can send your tape into Real TV, and you might get back enough money to replace the window in the back of the truck. Plus you get the added bonus of being a famous TV star. :moon:

I've found enough ways to make an a$$ out of myself, I just push the bike onto the back of the truck.

Ditto, cuz my bike falls off the ramp more times than not anyway.

I tried that last year. Guess I was lucky because:

I made it up the ramp

Only 1 person besides me saw it

I skidded into the front of the truckbed without any damage or injury
(Thank Goodness for Suzuki's SUPERIOR Suspension)

I learned to Never attempt this manuever again

A friend of mine use to ride up the ramp, untill he bent the front of the bed with the front wheel! I laughed pretty hard at him cause he was always giving me a hard time about pushing my bike up the ramp. :silly:

I must be some kind of idiot, cause I don't use a ramp. Instead I just lift the bike in one end at a time. Haven't had any embarassing moments yet.

Maybe you oughta practice a little throttle, brake and clutch control. If you can't get up a foot wide 8 foot long steel ramp into a truck without slamming it, maybe you have problems riding in your back yard? I try to control the bike whenever I'm on it as I was told that's how it works.

I don't think anybody intends to crash, but it sure seems to happen a lot, and usually at the worst possible time!

My ramp is only wide enough for my tires to fit in and it has sides so I always push it. I rode it up once using a wide loading ramp with no probs but I've seen plenty of mishaps.

The dumbest thing I've done is loading in my trailer. I was too lazy to drag the ramp out to push the bike in my trailer that was only 2 feet off the ground so I popped a wheelie. Bad thing for me is my little trailer is not tall enough for the bars to clear without leaning a little. I eneded up smashing both hands between the bars on the top rail of the trailer and as well a nasty bump on the old noggin'.

Too funny!

I don't have much muscle mass & used to give loading my old DR a good run, say 15' or so.

On one memorial attempt, the back tire - instead of going up the ramp - pushed it forward and upwards, while the front tire landed safely on the tailgate. So there I was, on my tippy-toes, holding the handle bars, all the while a neighbor was watching. All I could do at the moment was turn to him and say "missed!" Nonetheless, got him to laugh...and yessiree: I got rid of that anchor, but kept the much-appreciated 8'-long ramp.

I'm suprised Stan hasn't told y'all about unloading his bike at my house before DW. The look on his face was priceless when he saw the hole they had parked in front of. It took all three of us to get the bikes out. I know neighbors were watching through draw curtains shaking their heads.

Mr Armpump Sir,

Thank you for the advice. It is well taken. As a matter of fact I'm going to go practice right now, in my backyard as you suggested.

Modestly,

Chief

Here I was thinking I was a rank amateur for not having the guts to ride up my ramp - which is a hi-tech 2 x 10. After hearing all these horror stories, I think I'll be pushing my bike up for quite a while.

Yep, and I'll add tight woods stuff to the list for myself. I have never tried to ride a bike up a ramp, and after reading these posts I won't be trying it anytime soon. :) I've even dropped the bike a couple of times while walking it up a ramp. Turn the motor on, and I'm even more dangerous with it. :thumb:

When I picked up my Montesa the dealer just made me shake my head. He rode around the parking lot doing some wheelies and stoppies and even a tight "U" wheelie. Then proceeded to accelerate and then do a stoppie UP my ramp and stop just as the front tire kissed the tool box and the rear came to rest on the tailgate. It really made me think, "You know maybe I should take up checkers instead."

I was out at MX track one day and this guy was riding his bike up the ramp. I was watching him. As he nears the top of the ramp the bike stalls. He gets this 'oh craP' look on his face as he starts to tip and he quickly hits the E-start and rides it out. Quick thinking I thought he was gonna fall.

I just position the bed so that it's on the landing of our 80' triple. I hit the take off with enough speed so that I land in the truck and have just enough time to brake. :yeehaw:

I find that if you land with your front wheel on the tailgate, and go into a nose-wheelie while you're slowing/stopping, that gives you some extra room to get it stopped from that 80ft. triple.
Works best on a spray-in bedliner. :thumb:
