Just wondering what you guys do about oil on long trail rides. Do you just keep some oil in your tool bag and mix it in the tank? I am asking because many times the people I ride with travel over 80 miles in a day just stopping at gas stations to refuel. I normally ride my KFX on those rides but I would love to take the old KDX out for a long ride. :aj:

Usually carry 2-stroke oil in a couple of clear 4oz bottles marked in 1oz increments. Fill up at the pump and add the correct amount of oil.

Except, last weekend I forgot the already filled bottles in the shed for the 100 mile Turkey Run in Maine. Loaded up in pouring rain from hurrican Charlie. Lucky for me the club had a nice mini shop with oil, roll charts, gloves etc. at the start. Had to stuff an 16oz bottle inside my camelback plus the level of oil in the bottle was really hard to judge.

We usually find some place on the trail or close to the trail where we can drop off a few cans of fuel and coolers loaded with lunch and whatever beverages we may require at the time ;)

I always carry two, two oz.Nalgene bottles next to the right radiator. They are covered with an old inner tube to prevent abrasion. These fit perfect between the radiator guard & shroud. 500 miles & still there. :yeehaw:

I have a clear plastic bottle I carry in my fanny pack marked in 4 - 1 gallon increments according to how I mix. I'll usually take 2 gallons at the pump on a long ride. Put the gas in first in one gallon increments, ( I never fill it; 1-2 gallons, whatever comes close ), then add the oil, put the gas cap back on, ( very important step, ha ha ), lock the front wheel and bounce the front end up and down a few times. Voila!

I've done both...carried oil, or used a bigger (3.6) gas tank. With the big tank I get more miles than anyone else (90 +), never really ran out yet. I'm going to part with it soon if interested. (looks like orange is in my future;) )

I use the same method as Mrobbins. I carry 2 plastic 4oz. bottles of oil that are marked in increments. I got mine at www.kevinscycleracing.com under enduro stuff.

I also carry a cheat sheet in my butt bag as follows:

Golden Spectro - 42:1 = 12 oz. to 4 Gal. gas - severe conditions

Broken down: Gas Oil

.50 gal 1.5 oz.
.75 gal. 2.25 oz.
1.0 gal. 3.0 oz.
1.25 gal. 3.75 oz.
1.50 gal. 4.5 oz.
1.75 gal. 5.25 oz.
2.0 gal. 6.0 oz.
2.25 gal. 6.75 oz.
2.50 gal. 7.50 oz.
2.75 gal. 8.25 oz.

Golden spectro - 52:1 = 12 oz. to 5 Gal. gas

Broken Down: Gas Oil

.50 gal. 1.2 oz.
.75 gal. 1.8 oz.
1.0 gal. 2.4 oz.
1.25 gal. 3.0 oz.
1.50 gal. 3.6 oz.
1.75 gal. 4.2 oz.
2.0 gal. 4.8 oz.
2.25 gal. 5.4 oz.
2.50 gal. 6.0 oz.
2.75 gal. 6.6 oz.

This way I can fill the tank with gas (usually 1" down from the top)and add the right amount of oil.

Lots of threads on this. Do a search! But concensus seems to be use full synthetic at 40 to one. There are those who use up to 100 to one. Decide on a ratio and tune your jetting accordingly! Cheers John

hey guys my 03 kdx200 (it is bone stock except 12t front sprocket) consistently gets 30 to 35 mpg. However the consensus seems to be a fair amount lower. so why dont we start a thread on fuel milage of both 200s 220s and what modifications they have? mabey well figure some set ups that just get better milage. mabey well find that there just like race cars and the more power they have the more fuel they use. sounds interesting to me.

Thanks for the info guys. I stopped by Walmart tonight and found a bag of four 4 oz. travel bottles for $1.50, sweet! They should fit perfectly in my tool bag.

Yesterday I did a 104 km loop of the corduroy trails. Basicaly any type of riding you think of is thrown in there. From twisty uphill single track to highway to logging roads to mud to you name it. I made the entire loop on one tank of gas. I hadn't hit reserve yet so I figure another 15-20 kms easy. My bike is bone stock (for another week :p)

When I need gas I will either buy some at the gas station and mix it in the tank, or carry it with me in a tupperware container.
