I would like to follow up Truespode and say what a AWESOME time and what AWESOME place. Braap and myself were not what you call MXer's but we tried. Finally got were I was doing maybe half of the doubles that were out there, but still some were much too intimidating at least for me. Got to meet some guys and that was the best part. Got to see Julius styling with the new threads on. (I think were dirt resistant) :) But everybody was super nice. We did make it back Sunday but was late arriving. Montogmery offered up some night time activities for us on Saturday night which made Sunday morning turn to Sunday evening. :uh: I will put some pics in my gallery here soon and hopefully we will get to ride with you guys much much more. We made it home about 10:00 last night and it was nice to be back in my own bed with legs that still wont straighten completely out. :scream:

The Mississippi guys got bit by Montgomery too. :) I would have joined you guys, but I chose to overindulge on Thursday night in Birmingham.

Speaking of MS boys, I wonder how CRSeth feels today after cartwheeling his bike Saturday? Sounds like it was ugly. . .Seth told me he was knocked out for a few minutes. :scream: Maybe Lemming can provide a few details. I think he saw the incident unfold in front of him.

Brian, thanks for joining us at "The Borderline". (Aptly named, as the food was only slightly better than MY cooking). That could have turned into a party. . .if we had gone somewhere else. I really enjoy dinner and entertainment, but I prefer entertainment that doesn't appear to be the unfortunate result of a Rick James/ Donna Summer/ Zamfir bizarre love triangle. I'll have to give the guy credit for attempting to play Bob Marley's "Waiting In Vain" though. Great song, but reggae sounds better when it's NOT played on a flute.

BTW, Ronnie doesn't look like a florist.

Hey JP,
Well sorry about not giving a good invitation to you. But I will state you would have been more than welcome. It started at TGI Fridays and when the Patron broke out, it go out of hand.:p
The Borderline was named just right. I did notice you forgot to mention our wonderful waitress. I think her name was Mrs. Chong!
But anyway, I just really want to express how much fun I had. Just cant wait to get the pics back.
Also, if anybody can, Loretta Lynn's April 6-7 for the spring ride. www.mtdr.net for more info
I will once again be staying at the Holiday Inn there because they offer the $47 a night for the rooms.

SESF02 was to be my first time back on a bike since a fairly serious crash in
November. At the last minute I tried to get my bike back together but failed.
Luckily, Ivan is such a good friend that he said I could ride his 250F if I
went. (It also doesn't hurt that I have a stack of compromising photos of him!)

I couldn't take the day off work so Slacker agreed to drive down to my house
from Charlotte, load his stuff in with mine, and take Danny and my truck to meet
me at work in Augusta. That all went pretty smoothly until we got back out on
I-20 at 4:30 and found that they were replacing one lane of the interstate for
several miles. It tooks us an hour to go about 15 miles. Once clear of that we
made decent time.

Interesting note: Interstate in Alabama is pronounced Autobahn.

We got to the Monster around 9 or 10 o'clock Friday night. A few warm (relative
to the outside air) beverages were drained and then we had the bright idea to go
walk the track around 11 or 12. It was impressive to see how big the hills
were.

Those hills were even more impressive during daylight. The track is long and
fast with impressive use of elevation changes. Someone did some serious design
work on that track. They have plenty of space between each section of the
track, but you can see almost all of it from the spectator area. Even with the
high speeds, the track is amazingly safe. Most of the jumps are tabletops,
step-ups, or step-downs that allow you to land pretty much anywhere without
getting hurt.

During the day and a half that we were there, there was only one
real crash that I know of. Lemming and I had gone out to chase CRSeth. Shortly
after getting behind him, I came out of a right turn and saw the lower half of
his body flying through the air over a step-up / double. I didn't see any
bike...just boots and butt! Apparently he came off the bike and did some sort
of superman. He made it all the way to the next turn and his bike went all the
way over the berm of the next turn. Lemming went to help him and I stopped on
top of the jump to direct traffic. He got up and was wobbly, but wanted to
continue. He made it the rest of that lap before pulling off. In the process,
he roosted me with a faily large rock right to the chin guard on my brand new
helmet. I saw it coming but could do little more than wince. My ears rang for
several minutes after that.

Saturday morning, not too long after we went out on the track, Lemming let me
ride his GG200. It felt light and quick, but was suspended for someone weighing
70 lbs less riding through the woods. He told me to play with the clickers, but
the only bike I really wanted to ride was Ivan's 250F. A bunch of us all got
out on the track at the same time with Lemming leading (and usually waiting for)
us. I was near the front until we got to the 100 ft uphill triple. I was too
timid to double into it on the GG200, so when I slowed to roll the first jump,
my 17 year old, Danny, passed me in the air and slammed into the face of the
second step. He landed on the gas and took off. Danny has never passed me so I
was shocked. I got on it and tried to chase him down...I couldn't! He honestly
passed me and left me with me trying my hardest. Later, when I got more
comfortable and back on Ivan's 250F, I had to take him back out there and spank
him properly (just so he didn't get any wrong ideas about who was boss). I did
threaten to sell his bike if he passed me again, so that might have made it
easier for me.

I was surprised at how much I was able to ride after doing nothing but sit on my
butt for the last 4 months. At first I rode timidly. I was fairly cautious the
whole time, but there were some sections I tried to air it out on. After riding
along the fence by the stands, the track turns left and heads downhill to a 60
or 70 foot tabletop that has almost no takeoff. It is more like a gentle rise
with another long downslope afterwards. I was coming out of the turn in 2nd and
holding the throttle pinned until I got in the air. I was shifting through all
the gears and occasionally looking for a sixth. That is the fastest I have ever
jumped, I was literally pinned in 5th, and near the top end of 5th. There was a
fast guys whipping it some over that jump earlier so I tried to, but quickly
realized that landing even a little sideways at that speed was a bad thing.

The section in front of the spectators was somewhat intimidating, but still very
safe. I didn't cleanly go through it until the last 3 laps on Saturday! Coming
out of a left turn there is a short (20-25ft), downsloping tabletop, followed by
a 40-45 ft tabletop, followed by a single to a tabletop that is probably
50-60ft. Ivan also was taking it easy on this section until right before we
left when he started cleanly jumping the one in the middle.

After the 100 ft uphill triple was a set of whoops that had may 6 or 8. Most
people were slowing down for them, but on Ivan's 250F I was able to stay on the
gas and cruise through them. The combination of the steering damper and the
awesome suspension that Jeremey of MX-Tech did on that thing inspire so much
confidence. I honestly feel more comfortable on that bike than on any of the
bikes I've ever ridden.

Lemming took a great amount of pleasure in leading and leaving me for most of the
weekend. I finally did get to where I could give him some competition, but he
was riding really well on that MC250.

_SOLO_ has picked up a new YZ125 and it apparently came with a whole boxful of
speed! He also passed me and left me when I was riding Tim's GG200. He and I
were doing a few laps together when I noticed that he could pick up some speed
in the whoops before the "Stairway to Heaven". I suggested that he try to carry
the front wheel through that section and he was going almost twice as fast!

Slacker was almost right with me except for the really fast sweeping sections.
In those I think I was holding him up. I could pull him a little on some of the
jumps, but then when I got to the end of the long pucker-inducing right hand
sweeper through the sandy section he would be right behind me again.

Kawboy was riding much better (I really think that KX500 was holding him back
before). He got there late on Saturday, but within a few laps on the track he
was jumping some stuff that I still wasn't.

When Brian first got there I led him around the track and he was jumping some
of the tougher uphill step-ups on the first lap! That 426 really is a beast.

Scott's and Ricky's wives were much too sweet about cooking breakfast for all of
us both Satuday and Sunday. They also held their own around the campfire, too.
You are lucky guys!

I left out a lot and probably screwed up a few names, but I hope it is clear how
much of a great time I had. Again, I owe a really big thanks to Ivan for
sharing his freshly rebuilt 250F with me. I managed to find the rev limitter on
that thing on many occasions and it still ran great.

Thanks/sorry!

I forgot to mention that I couldn't help but think how cool it would be to see really fast guys like Wardy and AJ on 500s attacking those hills. It would also be cool to hear Jer singing a 125 around those fast sweepers or listen to Buster blowing up a 426 out there!

Yeah, what was that guy's name? Gary Sims? Gary Sammich? Gary. . .Gary SEMICS! Yeah, that's it. GARY SEMICS! Isn't he famous or something?

There was a rumor floating around that #129 on a Suzuki was Mark Barnett's son. The guy was definitely hooked up, whoever he was. Can anybody confirm his identity?

Monster Mountain is a big, scary, fast track. Unfortunately, it's comprised mostly of sand. Sand SUCKS! I chose to putt around all weekend instead of risking my life trying to go fast. It's an awesome track, though. I'm seriously considering attending the Loretta Lynn's qualifier there next weekend.

Brian, I'm going to the VSTA ride. I'll probably tag along with Timr and camp.

great report guys.
Ive wanted to hit MMountain for awhile now.

Gomer they had a HUGE money race for vets only scheduled there last year but the deal fell thru last minute.
The promotor had contacted me about attending and told me how cool the track was and how it was made for open bikes.
I was pretty bummed when that race dint happen.

Looks like you guys had a blast..

and keep in mind it snowed like crazy here yesterday and today..took me an hour to drive about 20 miles this morning because of drifts.

Bird, I saw a guy on a CR450 land way sideways off the ski jump . If it was your friend, tell him that was an AWESOME save. That was one of the biggest tank-slappers I've ever seen. I still get serious puckerage when I think about it.

Welcome aboard!

Man Saturday was a great day that was made for riding.. Ok the mx track was great but lets talk about the real riding that went on, on the hare scrambles course and the opening marking of new old sections. It was a great get together and as always its cool to put faces to post names. Nice to meet True spode and Gomer and all the others.
