Hey,
From your experience, what handguards work the best for MX and woods. I really like the Acerbis Flag ones...do they work well? Any and all opinions are greatly appreciated:)
I have the Acerbis Flag vented handguards. They are just like the flag but are a little smaller and have, oddly enough, venting holes.:D I really like them and think they work very well for blocking roost and bushes and brush. I don't know how well they would work in woods type riding, as I do none of that. They are pretty rigid but obviously would not be as rigid as aluminum guards that attach to the end of the handlebar. They look excellent as well and the color matches exactly with the YZ blue.
Good handguards for MXing but in woods I'd rather have full mounted handguards ( come from the bar ends and clamp down near the triple clamp) so incase you fall your bike won't be held wide open and they save levers and can save your bars from being bent.
Like Durt said. They provide good coverage from roost and small branches, but their wimpy mounting (1 bolt at the perch, and a zip tie) makes them pretty bad when dealing with trees and laying the bike over.
I have the Acerbis rally brush guards (all plastic). And my son has the Maier Universal XC pro hand guards. (almost the same as my Acerbis) Both are very good for an all plastic guard, but the Maier are half the price. $30 from MXsouth
First time my son dropped his bike hard he broke the front brake lever that is when we bought the guards. Since he has dropped it several times including one where the bike flipped and landed on the handlebars. The guards and levers survived. I also flipped my bike, it did a somersalut and a half and my guards and levers also survived. Now if you are going to be doing some serious bouncing off trees in the woods I would get aluminum ones, but for mostly MX with some tame to medium woods stuff I recommend either of the ones we use.
I would have to agree with the opinions of the Acerbis, guards. They have worked very well for me on rocks and roost, funny how I get roosted alot, must be old and slow. The guys I know here who ride woods though use the aluminum feinforced Acerbis. BTW JB426, the yammie blue looks almost as good on ny new CR too, very patriotic.
