My first thumper - DRZ400

OK, I got my first thumper, its a '01 DRZ400. My initial thoughts after the first ride (comming off a KDX)

Very smooth power delivery, with more bottom end than I am used to
Less gear changing needed (which I still need to adapt to)

Questions

1) How long will the battery stay charged if not used ?
2) Could I remove the restrictive air intake without changing the jetting ?
3) Any other tips and tricks ?

2) If you put more air into the engine, you will also need more fuel assuming the jetting is not rich right now.
