i went to the doctor today and got fitted with an ortho boot. he said no weight bearing for two more weeks. :( i was ready to get rid of these crutches (i've been on them since july 13). this is taking forever.

here is a pic of the pins that were in my leg and foot. they were drilled so far into the bone that the threads were not visible.

here's a partial x-ray before the fixator was removed.

the dark lines below the screw (the x-ray is upside down) are where the bone was splintered. the screw is permanent.

As far as speeding up the bone healing process, have you asked your ortho about a bone stimulator device?

I had a bad collarbone break, and after 8 weeks there wasn't much healing. The doc put me on a bone stimulator, and she was amazed at the results after wearing the stimulator for 5 weeks.

Check into it. Athletes wear them to get back in the game as soon as possible. I believe that it definitely reduced my recovery time.

Or maybe your type of break takes a long time regardless...

Jay - They look like tapcons to me .....
For a funny story about a similar situation .... check out the last page of the November issue of Fine Homebuilding. You could read it in a store but you will probably laugh too loud.
We may be riding about the same time .....

as of today (oct. 30), i am crutch free! :) 14 weeks and four days on crutches :| . i still have to wear my ortho boot for two more weeks.

it's not over yet though. my incision still hasn't closed up. i have to go to another doctor next week to decide what to do about it. it's looking like a skin graft is in my future.
