Need a cheap pack to carry gear on rides

I want one of those nice little zip-up packs that you can strap to your fenders so I can carry a couple of wrenches and some plugs in for trail rides. The ones I see in catalogs already have tools and are $100 and that's WAYYYYY too much IMO. I don't want to spend more than $20 and I don't want a fanny pack or backpack, I want something that straps on the bike and isn't huge or an eyesore. Anyone know of anything that'll work?

Thunder...he didn't say a zip-loc and a thin rubber band. Dream on, my friend. You remind me of the parable of the aroused ant floating down the river on his back yelling, "raise the drawbridge!"

Believe it or not, there's room behind the number plate on your YZ for a canteen-sized soft pack. I was able to arrange tools, raingear, Krazy Glue, zip ties, spark plugs, spare levers, bag of salted nuts, raisins, and first aid equipment in mine. I believe it was a Wal-Mart purchase for under $10, and its original intended use was for storing CD's. Make sure it comes with a shoulder strap.

The strap of the pack was secured to my bars near the steering column with a zip tie, and there was enough strap slack to allow me to pull the pack out, fetch whatever I needed, and jam it back behind the number plate. Sometimes it's easier to pop the bottom tangs of the number plate out of the holes, and just reinsert them when you're done. I had a bunch of wrenches that I zip-tied together by the box-end so they wouldn't scatter on the trail (kind of like keys on a ring). The rig stays very dry, and won't move or rattle if you do it right. It's also out of sight, so you reduce the number of spodes who spot your tool kit and sponge off you. That can be a full-time job.

Now that your rear fender's free, you can use an old piece of tie-down and some grommets to create a grab-strap...very practical with these YZ's, since there's nowhere easy to pull without cracking the fender. Do a second one on the front fender, and Bob's your uncle.

I think I saw the Moose pack in Rocky Mountain ATV for $20, might try that, but I kind of like the idea of a hidden pouch, like Detonator said. I might see how much space I got behind the number plate and see what I can find at Wal-Mart. I'm picky about the way that my bike looks and rather not have a big ugly bag tied to it if I can like some I've seen. Be nice if there was a compartment under the seat around the airfilter.

I picked up a bag from a bicycle shop. Its the ones that are triangular in shape that usually hangs under the seat. I took the straps off and bolted it to the rear fender. Looks great and cheap. (under $20.00)
