Wolf, I just did this very thing about 3 weeks ago. I was in Vegas for a Sales Conference. Me and two other guys rented DRZ400S with a guide. We left out of Whiskey Pete's Casino. This is about 45 miles southwest of the vegas strip. Our ride started at 8:30 in the morning and we finished right at 5:00pm. We did 131 miles that day. Mostly two tracks through the desert. We went up over the clark mountain range, rode through the valleys, went through some big sand washes, accross a field of Joshua trees, over an old lava flow. The ride was broken up by a lunch stop. We did 61 miles and then rode into the town of Baker, CA for a hot lunch at the Mad Greek, then over the bridge on the interstate and then back another 60 miles.
It was fairly easy riding and kind of high speed, only a few technical parts. But, it was part trail ride and part sight seeing adventure. We stopped along the way to see things like the "old mojave road" and places where the indians had setteld.
All in all, it was a great day and a lot better than sitting at a crap or black jack table.
Our guide's name was Uwe, and he was a ton of fun to hang out with. He's been everywhere and ridden in places like africa and south america.
The fee for the day was $279 and you can find more info at:
