Need help on tyres

I am looking for a new rear tyre for my yz400f and was just wondering what every one else is using on there thumpers, I want a tyre that lasts but still provides good grip and performance for soft to medium terrains (My terrain ranges from Soft Sand to hard dry clay).

Try the Dunlop 756 or Michelin M12.

For the rear go with the G rated dunlop tire,its made for 4t's,be sitting when you see the retail price!It is the only tire that I know of made for these things,and it holds up as it should for the price.

Try the Dunlop 756

This advice always astounds me when someone asks for a tire that lasts. Unless we get different compound tires up here my kid can destroy a Dunlop 756 in one practice session on a hard pack track. Does it perform well, yes, does it last, not by a long shot.

The Michelin M12 is a decent solution for an all around tire and the Maxxis IT's last very well but you are giving up something in the soft stuff with it.

Agree with Chili ... the 756 is awesome when new, will last a little while on anything except hard pack, but once it starts wearing, it goes to crap fast. Best compromise I've found is the Maxxis IT. Lasts forever, great intermed. traction/handling. FYI, the IT on the front isn't the hot set-up, run the HT front, IT rear.

You my be right, Chili. When I ride on hardpack, it's always so slick there is no way you could wear the tire out. The 756's do howl when you pitch the bike sideways on asphault, that's probably the tire destroying itself. The Michelin M12's never made any unhappy noises on asphault. I suggested the tire because most of the riding I do is on hardpack and I haven't had any rapid wear problems. I'll get a used tire with maybe 70% tread left and get 4 solid rides on it. The last Michelin M12 I had had 90% tread when I got it and went 6 rides. My biggest problem with short tire life is chunking, neither tire has ever lost a knob on me.

You asked for a good grip and long wear tire for soft - med dirt.
Answer is simple. Best value and best rated tires for your need
is: Maxxis IT or Dunlop 952 rear tires.
Both are great rear tires for your application.
The 952 last a lot longer, but I think the IT performs
a tab bit better when its nobbys are good.

Both got high ratings in the magazines.
I used them both and like the 952 long lasting wear.
But still think the IT hooks up a little bit better.
Both are much lower priced than other tires
and both last much longer than other tires.

For the Dunlop 756 comments, yes the tire is good and gets a
great rating, but only last about 4-5 rides and is much
more expensive. It got one star rating over the IT and 952
in performance, but got a horrible rating on durability.

what is the best tire for riding gravel roads? i ride mainly gravel, medium dirt and grass and wondering wwhat would be a good all around tire for those terrains?
