I have a 96 RM250 that doesn't want to start cold. The only way is push start down a steep hill.My compression is good. I just rebuilt the top end last year, but I've been having this problem since I bought this bike in 98. I had alot shops tried to figure out the problem, but no one has a clue. :bang: Once the bike gets warmed up it starts with 1 kick. My choke wasn't staying up so I replaced it but didn't solve it. I have a FMF gold fatty pipe & FMF silencer , & a rad valve. And had a couple shops make sure my jetting was right. I'm lost & tired of dealing with this, but can't afford a new bike. PLEASE HELP!!! Steve

Would the jetting affect the start of bike if the bike runs great while it's running? I never foul plugs, and the the bike runs smooth through the gears. When I check my plug it's always dry & cinnomin brown.

99 times out of 100 the reads are bad when starting is a problem. There should be no gaps between the reeds and the reed block and no chips, cracks, etc.

reeds or jetting is most likely your problem. I had a 96 and use to have a helluva time trying to kick that sucker over but once fired up it would start no problem the rest of the day untill it sat again. Ended up my jetting was to lean on the pilot jet and a lil lean on the main. Do you know what jetting you have as of now?
