Need something to clear my headlights

The headlights on my ford escort zx2 are foggy probably because of the calcium on the roads during winter. I was wondering if there was something available to clear them up a bit? This is getting pretty dangerous at night, especially when it rains.

Maybe a bathroom cleaner like CLR would clean them up?

if there to far gone just hit up a junk yard and pay the $15 a piece for new/used headlights. That or e bay. In most cases you wont get the lens clear enough with a cleaning solvent cause its prob eched its way far into the covers

Are headlights that cheap in a junk yard? I thought there existed a "super cleaner" to fix that problem.

You need to buff them out with compound. It's UV damage. I did it on my daughters 02 Mustang and they came out clear.

I'm not equiped with compound and a buffer. Is there a place where I can get this done? I guess a paint shop could do it?

I guess when you're saying lens you mean the ''plastic window'' which protects the light bulb? So yes they are plastic. Not all cars are plastic?

Pickup some Novus 3 stage products. They will do EXACTLY what you are trying to do with a little elbow grease. I have used it on the plastic windows of convertible cares with excellent results.

This is a very easy process. You will need several things to clean up the headlights

1. Plastic cleaner, you can find it at any automotive parts store

2. 00 steel wool. The very fine stuff.

3. Soap/water for clean up.

You just take the plastic cleaner and wipe the headlights down and use the steel wool to "buff" the area clean. Its not neccessary to use alot of pressure, unless the lights are not coming clean. Then just wash them clean and you'll be all set.
