Well, I’ve decided it’s time to buy a new KDX, but I have a few buying related questions.
Question#1
First off, when is the best time to buy?
I figure it would be around now seeing that the ‘04’s are coming in soon. Hopefully the dealers will be trying to make room.
Question#2
I’d like to hear people’s opinion on prices. I’m not quite sure what a good price would be for a brand new ’03 KDX220. Over the phone I got quoted at $5350 Canadian ($3874 U.S.) before prep, freight and taxes.

Thanks for your help, hopefully I'll have a brand new KDX in my garage by next week. :aj:

That seems to be a good price for a 220. The KDX doesn't change from year to year so there aren't any real deals by buying a leftover. The bike isn't really understood by most dealers so they are just glad to unload them.

The Kawi dealership here in Ottawa (Goodtime Centre) was selling an '03 KDX220R for $4700.00 or $4800.00 Canadian dollars before tax. I thought it was pretty good considering I bought my '02 early in the season for $5500.00.

I do think this is the right time to buy an '03. Good luck and enjoy the KDX. Its a blast....

Check out the prices at this place. So you can get an idea what to shoot for in your area. All 2003's are sold

That's an amazing price..
I paid $5199 for an 01 at the end of 2002....Nice find.

I'll be up there mid sept...Hopefully they will have the new CR250F in stock .My boy is interested in and perhaps.....if the price is right...The CR will sit next to,,,well maybe just behind,,,the KDX..

When I bought my '03 200 in July I noticed that the 220 price was $3850 w/o tax (no prep fee at my dealer). From the reviews I read I didn't think the 220 was worth the extra $200 for the riding I do (I know others will differ...), so I went with the 200 for $3650 w/o tax.

I too might have concidered the 200 if I was able to compare the power delivery between the 2
the 200 seems a lot snappier, and the 220 has more of an XR like bottom end with a weak top end.... A pipe should wake up the 220 but I have yet to try it

I didn't know that ! How long have you not been able to get the 200?

Thanks for all the input it helped a lot. I am now the owner of a new 2003 kdx 220. Thanks especially to MDA for posting the Ottawa price. The dealer down here (Two Wheel Motorsports in Guelph) came within $54 of the price when I told them about it. They were very reasonable to deal with. I'm Ok with the $54. It saved me an 800km round trip to Ottawa. Here is the breakdown of what I paid. All $ are Canadian. Note the $4800 Ottawa price
would have had a $196 freight charge + 15% tax added.

My costs:
5050.00 - for the bike (4800 + 196+54)
757.50 - tax (ouch, we are taxed to death here) Can't get around it but I
believe if you are from outside Canada you can get a substantial
amount of this refunded - a good deal for folks in the USA.
10 - registration
5818 - out the door - about equal to Kevin C.'s 3900 U.S. at today's
exchange rate and with a tax rebate available to non residents

Anyway thanks again, your input saved me about $500
