For Penguin or YZ165 and others who may want to go but won't be driving out with us, I should let you know where we're going. About 23 miles south of Alamogordo (or about 10 miles north of Orogrande) on Highway 54, near milepost marker 38.5 (I think), a broad dirt road heads west, up toward an abandoned rock quarry 2 miles off the road. You can see the quarry easily; it looks like a hill with the side eaten away. You'll follow the road toward the quarry; when the road forks, take the left fork. It will then bend around to the right and take you right into the quarry. Easy to find. We'll be camped out there Thursday night, March 24, through Monday night, March 28. You can call me on my cell (214) 437-9187, though coverage is sketchy once we're out there.

I can't come down for the whole week, but might attend on a day or two. Are you still planning on a ride near Cloudcroft, or is the desert near Alamogordo gonna be the weeks riding spot? Either way I wanna come down and let you guys pick on me for at least a day. Matt

Between work, school, and now moving, it looks highly unlikely that we will be able to make it.

Matt, we will almost certainly ride Dry Canyon, about halfway between Alamo and Cloudcroft. Tentative plan is to do that Monday the 28th, but we are flexible. We will have a guy or two who might not like the rocks up Dry Canyon, so we may not go too far, though if you get past the first rocky sections, you get up into the pine trees and it gets easier.

Brian: I didn't know you guys were moving. I hope you're not going far. Closer to Muenster, maybe? I'd like to move to those hills around Turtle Creek Golf Course up there, just five minutes from the park. Sorry you can't make NM; maybe next year.

We're moving about 5 minutes closer to Muenster. At least its a step in the right direction! I will probably ride this weekend, either Saturday or Sunday depending on my work schedule. Dad claims he is too busy, but I can still get away for a day of riding.

Cool, keep me updated. I'll probably be able to make it down for Sat. and Sun. the 26th and 27th, and wherever you guys wanna ride is ok by me. Matt

Well, today is the day. We'll be leaving town this afternoon, driving halfway, and arriving at our camp spot tomorrow about noon. We'll get a bit of riding in tomorrow, and hit it hard Friday. Matt, we'd love to see you make it out. At about mp marker 38.5 you'll see a big dirt road heading west from highway 54; a mile or two up the road you'll see a hill with the side carved out. That's our quarry. Go west on the dirt road until it splits and take the left fork, which will wind up the hill into the quarry. Hope to see you there.

Somebody is having a good time in the dessert. We are thinking about you and missing all the fun. We want full ride details when you get back.
