It is hard to believe it has been 13 weeks since my surgery!! I went to the Doctor on Monday for my checkup and here is where I am at: knee looks good, all 4 ligaments are strong, I am able to straighten it well enough to walk without much of a limp, and I am able to bend it about 100 degrees or so on my own. He wants me to keep up the therapy 3 times a week until I get more flexion and loosen it up a bit more. I got the ok to join the health club, so I can go and exercise in the pool, etc. So, finally some good news from the Doctor!!

I also got on my bicycle last weekend and went around the block 4 times!! I had a little difficulty at first with the bending, but was able to get it pretty quick. Slowly, but surely I am getting better. I am going to try to get on the road bicycle as much as possible, and when I am able to do that effectively then progress to the mountain bike. When I am able to ride the mountain bike (single track) and jump all the logs, etc....then I will get on my KTM. I want to be able to bend my knee all the way and feel good about getting back on the bike.

I originally thought that would not be until late fall, if not until next spring, however, I now think that by about August 1, I will again be riding the pumpkin! Woo Hoo!! :) That is a major improvement for me, and I am looking forward to it!!

Thanks for all the support and well wishes for the past 4 months!! I really appreciated it! I apologize for not responding to many posts, but I have been busy at work and with the therapy schedule it is pretty hard to find time. Welcome to all the newbie's and hope you all enjoy this site and riding as much as I do!

Take care!!
Anne

Great to hear an update, Anne! Sounds like you're making good progress! Just be careful about getting on the pumpkin too soon  but just a few more months to wait is great - much better than fall or even... next year! Excellent news - until then enjoy the bicycle and the health club :)

that's really good news Anne. As Nikki stated though, don't force it or it can set you back. At least you had some good memories on that trip too.

Congrats! Good to hear you are doing well. The flexion is definitely the hardest to regain; I still can't kneel down and sit back on my heels, may never. But if you work hard you will do better than that. The other big thing to watch out for is letting the exercises slip once you're close to 100%--my mom (X-ray tech and ACL recoveree) says that I will always have to stretch and exercise that leg more to keep it normal. My doc let me start riding earlier than her original estimate since I healed well--you are doing better than I did so you should be riding soon also. Keep it up. You're past the hard part.

Wow, 13 weeks already! How time flies! Well, maybe you haven't seen it that way..! Great job on the re-hab, Anne. Keep up the good work, and don't get overly anxious. The KTM will still be there when you're ready.

AnneBrookes, good to hear your update.
Please be patient and ride when you are ready.

I thought my back pain would go away within a week, but I still have it
(almost two weeks since the accident), and so I decided not to ride until I completely recover and feel no pain.

Do you have any other hobbies besides dirt biking?
This is a good chance for you to enjoy the rest of the things you are interested in. Please tell us what other things you do.

Take care!

Good to hear from you Anne. It sounds promising. Time is flying by (for those of us not injured, at a guess) and keep the updates coming :)

I am so impressed by your progress dude! From seeing it as big as a volleyball to almost normal size now you will be ripping up the trails in no time. But only you will know when you are ready and when you are let me know so you can help me from falling all over the place.

good to hear you're recouperating, have you given thought to knee braces after your recovery? I'm sure you've heard that it'll be more suceptable to injury, an ounce of prevention, and all that good stuff, ride safely :)

Good to here that your almost ready to ride. Like everyone else has stated, make sure you are 100% to ride again. Sounds like you might even be ready to go to the Goat Memorial this fall with us. Hope to see you soon on the trail.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate it. I am trying to take it slow, but the Doctor and Therapist want me to use it as much as possible to loosen up the stiffness and stop babying it. The ligaments are strong, but do show fatigue. In any event, I appreciate all your encouragement!

Firelily---I hope your back pain goes away quickly. Yes, I have plenty of other hobbies--road bicycling, mountain biking, rollerblading (not yet), reading, crafts and of course Speedvision, OLN & DRN. Plenty to keep me busy.

Aimee (GSR)---I look forward to riding with you soon too! And its a bonus because it will be much sooner than we both anticipated! Buffalo Rock and St. Joe park, here we come!!

SMB---yes, knee braces will be part of my ensemble. I have a CTI2 for my bad leg, but will probably order a set of Asterisk's when I start riding again.

FlyinRyan--I will look forward to the Goat ride!! Thanks for reminding me!

Lori---Are you and Dave coming to IL this summer?

That's great Anne. Keep it going and enjoy the small steps of progress. When I had my foot operated on, and I was in the rehab part of my healing, I pushed and pushed until I could just jog/run again. I did it during my lunch break at work. I came back and showed everyone I was able to run. It sounds so inconsequensial now, but when you can't run, it IS a BIG thing. You will continue to heal. Do what the Doctors say.
