Hey everyone, I bit the bullet this weekend and bought a 2005 yz250f. I'm gonna get to take her out this upcoming weekend for the first time. Unfortunately, my work schedule is such that for the next month or two, I'm only gonna be able to ride the bike maybe every other weekend.

What I want to know is, what are some simple tips as far as keeping everything in tip top shape through the long non-riding intervals? I'm gonna wash the bike down after every ride and clean out the air filter and all that stuff, but what should I do after that to make sure it's still in good shape while sitting for a couple weeks. I've heard you should wd40 the chain and sprockets, then wipe em off to prevent rusting and everything.

Any other tips are greatly appreciated.

thanks a lot.

Only put in as much fuel as you will use. Try to store the bike with as empty a tank as possible. This way, if you top-off before your ride, you don't have to worry about stale gas.

One other thing comes to mind too. Check your air pressure before you ride because they seem to loose air when they are not ridden often.

Otherwise, normal maintenance should be fine (clean air filter, fresh oil & filter, oiled chain).
