97 kdx 200, during a ride my sons bike was idling away and then stopped. Gave up trying to get it going on the trail. Once home got it going, but just died whilst revving. Cleaned carby, new fuel, only to discover that there is now no spark. Changed plug, no avail. Suspect plug holder, 0 ohms, will change it. But wondering about testing the coil and other electrical components in circuit, kill switch is ok first thing tested. Have been waiting on manual for 1 month now, on back order. Can somebody give me some insight on values and testing methods, for coil etc. As I would rather check them all at once than a peice meal approach.

97 kdx200 coil testing specs

Temmy,
Primary windings: 0.16-0.24 ohms( x 1 ohm) range
Secondary windings: 5.0-7.6 ohms( x 1k ohms) range

Connections: Primary: CDI lead / center post
Connections: Secondary: Plug wire/ lone top post

I hope this makes sense. Good luck.

Tremmy,
Additional ideas. Remove the coil and clean the ground connections on the frame with emery cloth and contact cleaner, corrosion is a problem there. Open wire connectors and clean, inspect, then dilectric grease them all. Burned or frayed wires can go un-noticed until your slamming some whoops and your bike cuts out on you. If you need more CDI specs, let me know.
