I get a pop up that says I've got 3 new private messages...too bad I don't have access to read them. If a subscriber sends you a messages shouldn't you at least be able to read it, not necessarily respond....I plan on subcribing in a few weeks once I get my own paypal account going, just so no one says "just pay dangit!!!"

I actually think its kind of a good incentive. At first a lot of people don't know what the PM feature is. Then when they get one they just gotta know who sent them one and what it says. So then they pony up. Curiosity could pay for this web site that way.

Bummer dude. Just pay up ;) (sorry, couldn't resist)
What would be better than your suggestion, but probably a lot of hassle for Okie, if not impossible - would be to have the "send PM" button removed from the base of posts or for subscribers to realise that registered users can't read PMs (also impossible).
One thing you could do (I think) is email the people you received the PMs from, asking them to email you back with whatever was said/asked.
