I have a 03 rm 125 and i have oil that comes out of the silencer pretty darn thick. I run my oil at 44:1 and i have jetted it lean. it runs good but there is still oil. :bang:
Does anybody know whats going on here?

What kind of gas and 2 stroke oil?

Not to be pedantic, but how are you sure you're running it lean?

Did it just start or is it normal for your bike? I have an 05' KX250 that does the same thing. I run 32:1 with 91 Chevron Techron and Maxima SuperM. It runs great so I'm not worried at all.

I'd never run a 125 with a leaner ratio than 32:1, you're spooge issue is likely a jetting problem.

My 91 kx250 does the same thing, only when cold. once it warms up and blowing the crap out, then it is all normal. I am starting to wonder if this is normal for my 91 kx to do this when cole. It comes out real thick and soupy, and it spooge out onto the swingarm and everyhting. Normanl?????

I read an article once that claimed if your pilot jet is to rich, then that is almost ALWAYS the cuase of oil "spooge" coming out of the silencer.

And if you own a KX, then theres a GREAT chance that your pilot jet is to rich :)

If you own ANY 2-stroke and have not rejettet, chances are you are running really rich. Unless you live somewhere in the arctic circle below sea level...

Yea I tend to agree with you masterphil.

I think manufactor's of 2 cycles have to jet for the coldest possible conditions by defualt, so that way if someone decides they wanna go riding somewhere where the temperature is like 0 degree's, they don't fry thier engine from it running to lean.

I would rather be rich than lean any day. As long as it's not bogging down, down low, I say slather it up! And I have mine rejetted and it still spooges with Yamalube 2-R. I have some Maxima K2, I hope it does the protection job that Yamalube does and hope it doesn't spooge as much.

What oil are you using?

I'm still a newb but I have done a fair amount of reading. If you don't wind a 2-stroke up and ride in the power band doesn't it cause this condition as well? That's why I haven't been too worried about mine.

I usually putt out of a corner in second gear almost boggin down...lol and don't get out of 3rd very often... I have been trying to wind it up a lot more but this thing has freakish power...I guess I will get used to it.

the oil is burned by combustion in the combustion chamber. the temperature in the combustion chamber is lower when you just putt around. Even a bike jetted spot on will spooge a bit sometimes if not ridden hard.

and yes, the pilot jet and needle/needle jet/clip position are most critical if you aren't riding wide open much.

well i use some suzuki oil stuff i dont know the exact name and im just running 92 pump gas.
I will try messing with the jetting a lil bit.
And i know its not because im not riding it hard because i do, and i have to, to keep up with all my friends 250s and 450s.

If you are using the normal Suzuki two stroke oil that comes in a quart bottle, then there isn't anything wrong with the oil. I used that oil for years, it isn't the highest tech or cleanest stuff out there but overall it's good oil. I've known a lot of guys that have used it with no problems.

Keep in mind that if you make a change, such as leaning your jetting, that you will still see some drooling for a bit, regardless because there is still oil trapped in the exhaust system that has to make it's way out.

If it's sticky when fresh, I would get a new oil. Yamalube is not sticky at all, but it is a little messy on the swingarm. A Yamalube powervalve is very easy to maintain. Matter of fact, take a look at your powervalve and see if it's sticky inside...if it is, get a new oil.

Tailpipe spooge

I have a KTM 300 and a Yamaha YZ 250. My son has a KX 65 and a KX 85, my duaghter has a KDX 220. They all spooge out of the silencers and/or spark arrestors. We run 44 to 1, Maxima Super M and all of the bikes have had some jetting tinkering to get them running right. They all run great. I think most of todays serious off road machines are designed to be ridden at higher RPM than most of us twist them to. Unless you are racing all the time and are screaming the motor at high RPM the whole time, I think they all spooge somewhat at the tailpipe. All of my bikes do and so do my kids bikes, despite the fact they all run great. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you. Just clean up the mess between rides.

ya my friends 05 yz 250 does it also but just not as bad as mine so i was just wondering what i could do about it. i just cant see to go and start messing with the jetting again when it runs good.(but the darn spooge is so annoying)

Well, the pilot jet usually causes the spooge. The pilot jet wont really affect how the bike runs, although it will affect off-idle performance (meaning that if its wrong, your bike will hesitate for a second before taking off from idle-speeds)

Theres an easy way to test the pilot, and it goes something like this:

Start the bike and make sure its fully warmed up. Rev it up a few times to clear it out (assuming it has to lean of a pilot jet lol).

Let the bike idle, then turn the air screw in and out until you find the point where the bike is idling the fastest. If idling at it's fastest at more than 2 turns out, you need a smaller (leaner) pilot. If its less than 1 turns out, you need a bigger (richer) pilot.

By the sound of your spooge, you definitely don't need a bigger pilot; sounds like you need a smaller one.

Lastly, once you get the right size pilot, tinker with the airscrew till you get the best throttle response off of idle. Drive the bike around slowly (and let it idle way down), then gun it wide open, and make sure theres no delay or hesitation.

Does this sound right guys? I'm pretty sure I'm right on the money here.

great post...I think you meant to say "if LESS than 1 turn out get a richer pilot jet". That's ideal, but you won't hurt anything running outside of those limits (unless the screw is so far counterclockwise that it falls out, and I doubt it).

Yea, I meant to say LESS than 1 turn out :)

I went and fixed the post.

I use yamalube and I love it. I have never heard anything bad about yamalube, EVER.

I think a smaller pilot is a much better solution than switching oils or oil ratio, etc.
