Is anyone up for a Talimena camping trip? I have the 4 day weekend planned and may spend 3 days in the mountains. The trip is not firm yet but looking good. I tried for a week off and heard a sob story that brought tears. I have a new (real) job starting on the 13th want to use up some vacation time.

I'd love to go, Randy, but probably can't. I'll be riding Muenster with my kids that weekend, unless something changes. If it's too hot to ride, or if my daughter changes her mind, I might be up for a Saturday ride in the Kiamichis.

Jim, my family wants to go too so I will be up there if it all works out. If anything changes, post a message. I will check the forum before I leave. We are planning on staying in the state park. If no one else goes, I may do some exploring. There is some other camping areas (Horse Thief Springs) on top and a lake on the other side with 2 wheel trails only.

Come on all you 2 wheel mountain goats, where are you?

Where is this? How far from DFW? Got a place to swim and cool off?

It's about three and a half hours from DFW. Mapquest Talimena State Park in Oklahoma, but don't follow Mapquest's directions. Go 75 to Stringtown (7 miles north of Atoka), take 43 west 40 miles to Sardis Lake; take Highway 2 across the dam, then left 7 miles to Highway 1; take Highway 1 right to Talihina, Oklahoma, then go left at the light in town, Highway 271, then go 7 miles to the state park, spelled "Talimena." If you go Mapquest's way through Antlers, it adds about half an hour to the drive. There are some deep spots in the creeks where you could swim, but you'd have to ride to them.

There is a lake nearby but I have never been there. Plenty of clear cold water creeks around too but most are shallow. We can ask the caretaker (Eugene?) of the camping area. He will know where to go take a dip. There is always a cold shower.

I am glad no one signed on to go. It looks like we are going to stay home. Everyone is getting sick. Wify brought home a bug and it is spreading. I think I will be indoors this weekend.
