Hey Gregg,
I'm the XR rider with the old motorhome from the Oak St. riding area. I hope you and your family are well.
Just wanted you to know that I've been back to Drinkwater Flat many times since that awful incident of being chased by the sheep dog. That place is still quite a challenge for me.
This past Saturday I went to Rohwer Flats for the first time. Although the fire roads are fun and fast, I made the mistake of jumping off onto some of the small trails. They start out OK but get treacherous - and then it's too late to go back. I rode for 4 hours/60 miles and fell 6 times! I bent every lever on my old XR350. The brake/clutch levers are a matching set of ram's horns, the shifter is ground into the casing and my forks are out of alignment. All in all, it was one of the best rides I have ever had!
I think I found the link between Drinkwater and Roher. While in Roher, I took a very tight/twisty single track down the hill. It was wonderful powder and had some great woops (I wiped out going up and going down). The road led to the highway where I opted to turn around before it got too late.
I am going to call the Ranger in the area to see if I can get some maps of both of the places. They are a great addition to my weekly riding schedule and I am grateful for your suggestion.
