Opinions on 04' KTM 300 MXC

Would like some opinions on the 2004 KTM 300 MXC. I'm coming off of a 2001 200 MXC (my oldest son has confiscated it...so Dad get's the NEW bike, right!) and have found a new 04 300 MXC. From the articles I've read they seem to be praising this bike, but would like a more down to earth "riders" opinion (rather than a product selling opinion).
Everyone is on the four-stroke craze, but I'm not sure I'm ready to make the switch...and also deal with the weight. I'm a two-stroker and a long time KTooMer. I ride woods, as well as my share of MX, and the 200 has been a good bike for both. I would assume the 300 MXC would be just as good.
I have the option of the Honda 250 X, but worry it will not be as agile on the track... and I can't afford two bikes. Do not think I would like the KTM 450, and KTM doesn't have a competitive 250 four stroke...yet.

I went from o1 250 mxc to a 04 300mxc.I rode the 04 450exc,o4 crf450,both in single track.I liked the crf best but I stalled it in 2nd twice and had a hard time restarting it.I could not get used to weight and engine breaking on exc.This is just my opinion and the only four strokes I have been on in 25 yrs riding.That being said I could own a crf 450 when they come with the button and set up a little more for woods.I race vet b in harescrambles and do a little motocross.I bought the 300 without riding and man I am glad i did.The stock 04 suspension better than my 01 race-tech,I'm 200lbs and if you didn't hear the tire rub rear fender you wouldn't even know you bottomed.Light as any 250,smooth and brakes are great.

The 300MXC is the king of woods bikes. Get it

I have an 01 250 MXC and love it. I have never ridden an 04 300 MXC, but if I were to get a new bike, there isn't a doubt in my mind that that is what it would be.

A little late, had an '02 400 MXC, bought an '04 300 MXC last fall. The 400 was very nice, I absolutely love my 300, will buy another when it is time! You will not regret your purchase.
