no paint will stick nice to plastics, but I think Krylon makes some bomb cans of something that will stick better than most to plastics.

Check your local hardware store.

Hey!! There is a spraypaint called "Fusion" made by KRYLON that is awesome. It is made to stick to plastic and works beautifully. If you want ,I can email you a picture of my 02 YZ426 that has both fenders and numberplates spraypainted.(the yellow and white portions, not the blue). It's been a couple of months and it is not peeling or chipping. You should be able to find Krylon Fusion at any hardware store. And it's only about 5 bucks a can.

I was thinking that you could put clear plastic over the "high friction" spots to keep them nice. Just buy some 12 x 18 sheets and cut the shape you need for the given area. I use tracing paper over the area I want and pencil in the right shape and size. Then I put it over the background and trim with an exacto. I haven't had any rubbing through on the painted numberplates so far,but if you paint the tank, you probably want some clear plastic protection over the high traffic area where your knees rub constantly.

Hmmmmm.... I've used blue and purple on a KDX,and yellow and white on my YZF426.The YZF had brand new front and rear fenders that I cleaned real good to get any oils off before taping and painting. The number plates were old and really scratched and dirty,so I cleaned them really well with a grease fighting dish soap, and then sanded the huge gouges down to mere scratches and taped them off and painted away. I used 3 or 4 coats, applying each within 10 - 15 minutes of eachother. The racing stripes I painted on the fenders of the 426 are long and pointy, but the tape still peeled off easily and left nice clean, long points without any peeling of the paint.I'm not sure what I'm doing right, but I think the fusion paint is awesome! I see you're in Wa. I painted my stuff in a warm, dry shop. I'm wondering if climate is a factor while applying it? Just a thought. flap

Hey! Cool! I'm proud of the way my homemade graphics and paint job turned out. The old school Yamaha looking design on the tank is something I cut and layered myself out of yellow, black ,and white numberplate backgrounds with clear vinyl over it. But the stripes on the front and rear fenders, the yellow on the numberplates, and also on the fork protectors were all done with Krylon Fusion. I'm not totally done yet,but I like it so far. My email is [email protected] and I'll send the pictures as soon as you tell me to. Thanks, flap

Hey Joe! I'm an idiot with a crappy computer. Can you go to "flapwick"at photobucket and view them or get them from there? Don't bother if you don't want to.I'm sick of hours of up or download just to be denied(sniff, sniff, woe is me).I'm nearly certain it's a conspiracy involving the E.P.A.,the Vatican, all makers of graphics,And Barack Opromta.I'm pretty sure Pelosi is gonna blame the C.I.A. when she hears about this, but I know she knows! P.S. .... Joe,I suspect your involvment as well. I gotta get me one of them there "3 wolfs and moon" T-shirts. Maybe that will change my life.

All you gotta do is copy and paste the HTML code from under your picture on Photobucket. Just make sure you keep the pics this size (under 800 pixels).

Looks pretty good! Let us know how the paint holds up.

I painted the numberplates and fork guards on my Supermini.

attachment.php

I used Krylon Fusion paint, "Silver Hammered Finish" for plastics. And it looks pretty trick so far. I went with a dozen light coats (no hammer finish) after washing the plastics down with 409 brand cleaner. I'm impressed so far with the way it's held up. Only sliding down a very rocky hill has done any damage to the paint, and that was where it scratched through and into the plastics some. No peeling just yet.

Thanks alot JOE,I really do appreciate the effort. The paint is holding up beautifully, but I did notice that it does not like either the grease I put on my new steering head bearings,or it may be a little gas coming out of the breather tube on the gas cap that I run down the center of the steering head. It is bubbling and peeling a little bit on the rear of the front fender from one or both of aforementioned issues. Everybody at the track is amazed to find out my fenders , plates ,and fork protectors are "kryloned". Thanks again! Hey justalonewolf, they look great! I'd love to see a picture of your bike.

For the record....the scratched portion on the left side plate is from being rubbed hard for a half an hour by my son's Suzuki RM 85 in the trailer. It does not scratch easily. I'm just hoping someone from Krylon is reading these posts and will hire me,at great expense,to do commercials and testamonials for them. "It's not just a spraypaint,it's a way of life!" Or maybe...."Tastes great!Less sanding!" Or maybe...."Got Fusion?" Or maybe...."I can't read or write,I fart in public places,my name is flapwick and I can't look in a mirror without shrieking and crying, but with Krylon Fusion...I can paint a fender like a pro." I am headed for the big time, people.

I put the clear vinyl over the tank and shroud graphics only. Those are not paint, but numberplate backgrounds that I designed and cut. The numberplates, fenders, and fork protectors are painted and do not have any clear vinyl or clearcoat over them at all.
