Day One 11/03/03 I tell you what, I am so glad Paul has finally got to ride. He gets so amped to ride it is unbearable. The weather is the same hot, sticky, constant 20mph wind with grainy sand. Sunscreen seconds as an exfoiant because there is so much sand. I have various degrees of sunburn all over my body today the backs of my legs are the victims. My back is in the snake stage and my shoulders have tanned out. Paul is on minute 9:14 today this may change as days go on. The start of day one is awesome, I only have pictures, Sarah had the video camera. All our team Washington guys finished today which is really good. Aaron Wilson is running in the 40s and Eric is in the 70-80s in their class. Paul is finishing in around the top 20s in his class. This is a great start. Paul didn’t change a tire today, it didn’t seem to be that bad. They will change tomorrow. Tomorrow’s course will be about 20km longer so the first rider our will be at 7am, this will be much nicer as it is cooler in the morning often with some marine clouds that burn off around 9am. Sarah spent the day out at check point 1 & 5 with Dakota Sorem and seemed to have some good stories to tell. Scott spent the day in Park Ferme gassing and organizing tools. Scott and I are always the last ones to leave and the first one to get to the container each morning, it just doesn’t seem like other people care to help put sh#t away. Frustrating in a way but we were warned. One thing is for sure Scott and I will be 15 lbs lighter when we get home between the long days of sweating, walking and swimming to cool off. My first day of spaghetti cooking was interesting. It is so hot and we are so close to the hotel that a lot of the riders are impounding and running for the cool shower and pool. I will have a new approach tomorrow. It is kind of nice though cuz I really don’t have to be down there until noon, that means I can watch and mingle with other countries. Well I hope to get a chance to update tomorrow. Bom Noche, Momma Neff
