Here are a couple pictures of a cylinder from a 1989 KX250. When I yanked the jug I could immediately see that the piston had been incontact with the cylinder wall. The piston has a lot of scrapes all around it, but the rings looks intact and appear to have average wear.

I was told that this cylinder was rechromed back in 2000, but I'm wondering if it is trashed now. There are a lot of marks spaced apart around the cylinder, but I can't feel any deep grooves or pits. Furthermore, I thought that when the plating came off of cylinders that it flakes and peels. I don't see that in this cylinder, but rather just spots that show smooth wear. I can even see the cross hatch marks in various spots around the cylinder.
I'm hoping it will clean up with a hone and won't need another plating?!!?!?
