I just did a plug chop for my main jet on my '90 KDX. I have never had a plug look like this one before and was hoping someone could tell me what it is saying?
For a main jet chop it's really really hard to tell without removing the threaded portion of the plug. You need to read the line at the base of the insulator.
Timing looks good. I believe 1 step colder plug. And ditto the hacksaw. It seems there is a burn ring down there, but? Very nice pics by the way. Vintage Bob
Running 91 octane Chevron with Golden Spectro at 32/1. Overall the bike seems to be running good. The bike pulls hard, handles putting around without a hitch, responds well to throttle input, doesn't overheat, starts always on the first or second kick (unless it is below 60 degrees - third kick).
What started this is that I have been getting a lot of spooge out of the silencer. It is getting on my fender, plate, tire, etc. I figured it was probably running very rich so I did the plug chop. It doesn't look like it is running rich at all IMO. The insulator appears to be a rather uniform very light tan even though it doesn't show up in the photos. However, the coloration around the edge of the center electrode looks odd to me as well does the soot to the outside of the ground electrode.
Cutting the plug open? I have never heard of doing that for a plug reading. Last time I did this I just looked at the bottom of the porcelain and adjusted from there. Maybe I have been out of the loop for too long.
what you want to see is the width of the burn ring at the base of the insulator. We can't see from the pics how wide it is.
For the spooge, it may just be that your silencer is needing repacked/replaced. There are several threads on KDX spooge. They seem to do it more so than other bikes even when jetted spot on.
