I have a 2004 Suzuki RM 250. I have been playing with the external power valve adjustment, and would like to get to stock again. Does anyone know how far to turn it starting from zero preload to get back to stock? I believe it's a quarter turn clockwise...

It spun when I loosened it, and I'm not sure where its stock set point was.

Thanks for any help you guys may have.

I have done some snooping and asking, and I'm still not sure about the stock adjustment for the 2004 RM250. The manual does say a half turn, I've realized, but I've heard from a dealer it is a full turn.

Anyone out there who has done a top end on this bike must have come cross this adjustment. Anyone?

How does the powervalve adjustment affect power delivery on the RM250? Starting to shop for a new bike, want something I can set up for mostly MX but some offroad. Don't really want a hard hit which the RM supposedly has. Love the bike otherwise (rode an '03). KTM seems to offer this, I was under the impression Suzuki did not.

My favorite dealer sells KTM and Suzuki.

Yes, the 2004 RM 250 has an adjustable exhaust valve.

I think I have it back to the stock setting now (180 degrees clockwise from 'zero').

The power is adjustable - less preload to make it hit harder and earlier, more to make it smoother for low traction situations. I assume this is the same as the KTM.

I can testify that running it with no preload gives the bike a lot of low end (and not an abrupt hit), but destroys the top end. I don't know if running it like that will be bad for the bike. I put mine back to stock and put in fresh reeds (Boyesen Superstock carbon fiber) and the power is excellent for MX.

I can't comment for off road. But I love this bike for MX. The throttle control is great.

The 01 goes 1/2 turn on tension for stock.

You can change it at the track without messing with the jetting. Try adjusting it no more and 1/8 turn at a time and see what works best for you.

Are the current Suzuki power valves the same set up as the older ones, say a 1987 250?
Does anyone know what the actuator (Suzuki calls it a governor) is supposed to feel like with the valve disconnected, i.e. loose or firm?
Thanks for any and all advise.
