My guess is this question has been asked many times but I dont see it here. I was reading Steve Hatch's web site http://www.hipersports.com/hatch.htm where he talks in detail about nutrition and fitness techniques.

One thing he does before and during a race is drink Cytomax. Has anyone tried this? Normally I just drink lots of water before a race. I am looking for any professional adivice or web sites that talk about what to eat/drink prior to races like harescrambles, enduro's etc.

Thanks a bunch....:)

I would drink a lot of water from the night before till the race.No cokes or such from that night till the race. That seems like that would be a good way to start.I have no idea about the food though.I drink a lot of water a day anyway, but lay off the cokes or caffeine maybe a day before the race.:think

I drink 4 quarts of water for every quart of sports drink. And no soda! think everyone will tell you not to drink any kind of soda. Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Drink about a gallon of water 2 days before a race, and another the day before a race. For breakfast, I like a shake and powerbar. Shake has Weider Carbo Fuel, banana, your choice of fruit juice, and crushed ice. Very tasty. Personally, I like the chocolate power bars, but whatever floats your boat.

If you decide to use a drink like Cytomax or one of the other carbo energy drinks, make sure you use it in practice before trying it at a race. Some of these drinks may not sit well with you individually. I found out during a century bike ride that Cytomax and I weren't compatible. Had I followed the above advice I would've finished the ride that day.

Cytomax is great for pre or post. I like Cliff bars and several bananas before and Carbo Force drink immediatly after. Within 30 minutes if possible as this is when your glycogen window is open and the Carbo Force drink has over 100 carbos. At night its protein and milk shakes for muscle repair. Recently I read that you should include protein immediatly after also. Just make sure your hydrated for the race and not so much that you have to pee every 10 minutes. I hate being at the starting gate and the 50cc class is running and you just gotta go.

pre race fluids

Yes I have tried the energy drink Cytomax and haave have good results. It seems to help especially if you suffer from leg cramps. The stuff actually prevents them. Use it in your drink system. Since I am an Isulin-Dependent diabetic I HAVE to maintain adequate blood sugar levels to prevent insulin shock on the trail. Also try revenge. Its a product put out by Champion nutrition. Its similiar to cytomax but has stimultants in it that help you "think you can" when you may feel like "you think you can't".I hope this helps.
Good Luck!
