I had a great time last night changing pumpkin lube to Mobile 1. The front was almost more pleasant than an oil change and only took about 1.5 quarts. The rear was lame as always mainly because of the required cleaning of the inside and gasket surface. It took almost 3 quarts. So 4.5 quarts at 7$ a quart, 1 - 5$ gasket and I have synthetically lubed pumpkins. Next comes the NV243 transfer case. It took about 3 hours start to finish and I keep everything clean. Oh and 10 bolt rear (no chunks missing yet!) and 1/2 ton IFS. Everyone should own one of the sta-lube pumps, I couldn't imagine doing this without it.
We'll see how the synthetics affect mpg. The main reason I am going through the fluids is because, believe it or not, the manual has a 30,000 mile change interval on pumpkin lube. I am still not entirely sold on the synthetic ATF yet but in a gearbox it is smarter.
