Hello

Could someone tell me how the throttle cable attaches to the slide. I am changing the cable on my 99GG EC 300 and am not sure how to detach the old cable from the slide. I can see about a 5mm bolt as I look down from the top of the slide. Do I just back this out and stick the new cable in? I know this is pretty basic but any input is appreciated.

regards,
WoodChuck

woodchuck,

The "bolt" you see in the slide is a screw in retainer for the needle. To remove the cable compress the spring toward the cap, hold it compressed with a pair of needle nose pliars on the cable, there is a plastic sleeve at the slide end around the "bolt" that has to be slid toward the compressed spring, sometimes this sleeve stays in the spring, now slide the end of the cable into the slide slightly and toward the slot in the "bolt" at the same time removing the cable. When reassembling make sure to align the notch on the plastic sleeve with the slot in the "bolt".

Good instructions, I use flat blade screwdriver to pull up spring. Then clamp locking needle nose pliers under spring sleeve onto cable leaving space to push down and remove from 6mm bolt.

I work with all sorts of metal cable all the time, I would wrap tape around the jaws of the pliers, the slightest nick will cause the cable strand to weaken and break, trust me, it might take some time to happen, but where might you be when it does. I find nothing worse than pushing a three or four hundred pound self propeled machine through the desert or woods to my pickup.
