Is that true??? I know that you have to avoid the energy conserving label because this makes the clutch slip, but avoiding all automotive type oil doesn't make sense to me. What do you guys think?

Check out the thread "Full synthetic oil in my Thumper". Last I checked there were 4 full pages on this topic and this quote was one of the posts.
