It does not look good for one the great riding areas in CO as it is about to be consumed by the biggest fire in CO's history. It already is burning in the south end of Rampart and is heading NE through it's heart. This is a bummer for the Denver biking community. Rampart is only 45 minutes aways and has mile and miles of some of the best riding in the West. It will be a shame if it totally goes up. It will be years before they even think of opening it back up. I know many of you from other states have enjoyed this area. It is going to be a long summer. We need rain and lots of it. :ugg:

It is doubtful that it will be closed for long, once the fire is out there will be little reason to keep it closed. Start sending letters to your state representatives now before the greenies blame the off road community for this event.

Rampart so far has survived. While it appears the fire is burning on the very south end of Rampart Range, it does not appear to be moving through the heart as first predicted. The winds have changed again and is pushing the fire back into itself. I believe the fire is spreading out E and W but not N. Cross your fingers guys. The news predicts wind patterns for the next couple of days to come from the NE. It is going South from the Metro area. That would be great for saving Rampart.

Pike National Forest and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) public lands are closed for all uses in Douglas, Jefferson, Park, Teller, and El Paso Counties. Persons are prohibited from being on, or driving on any National Forest or BLM lands. Refer to Order No. 02-07, effective 12 AM MDT, June 10, 2002

From the sounds of it, its possible it will be closed to the end of the year.
