Any debris in the fluid will cause problems. Change the brake fluid and make sure it's been bled to remove all of the air.

If bleeding fails, try rebuilding the master cylinder. My 97 yz felt like you described until I bought the rebuild kit.

There were no external leaks. The brake felt like it was off or on. Nothing in between. I think I paid 20.00 for the kit. It helped a lot!

Good luck!

Thanks for the imput. It had some air in it after all lol. I removed the entire unit and held it so gravity would push all the air out and now it works good.
