Hi everybody, I'm from Holland so my English won't be so good. I'm considering to buy a 2002 Rm125. But I'm concerned about the reliability of the Suzuki's. I've heard from everybody that the older Suzuki's weren't reliable. But what about the 2002? I've heard that Suzuki's have tranny and clutch problems. Does the 2002 still have this? Can you also tell me why those problems acure? And what about the topends? Do those topends last longer on an YZ125 or not? Thanks anyway!

I've had Suzukis since 1992 and I've never had a reliability problem and now I've got the 01 RM 250. I've heard that the clutch is weak but since I don't race, it's never failed me yet. The 02's are supposed to be right up there with the other brands in regards to performance and reliability. Check this topic, you won't see too many posts about rm's. ;) The top ends on 125's won't last quite as long as just because they are wound up a bit more for the power so you might have to change them out more often. Good luck

I have had a few proplems with my 2001, like the power valve coonecting rod-$38, piston-$60, and oil has always dripped from my silencer, and now I have powervalve problems. But I love the bike.

My son has a 02 RM125 and rode the 01 last year. We race enduros and hare scrambles, and probably had 150 hrs on the bike. We replaced the piston & rings twice on the 01. Both are excellent bikes, with no troubles except for the 01 did have the powervalve linkage problem as mentioned. The 02 has a different connection method which eliminates the problem.

Both bikes have great suspension, great power, and very good ergonomics.

Both year models have the taller seat, but if you want a shorter seat foam, buy an aftermarket seat foam for a 01 RM250. Note that the stock seat foam is a bit too soft and gets flabbed out after use.

Go with the 02. The 01 has these faults- 1) has a dragging clutch which makes the bike hard to start in gear at times, 2) has issues with the powervalve linkage, 3) the rear tire will contact the fender during bottoming out unless the wheel is adjuster to longer length, 4) cheaper graphics, 5) rumors of gearbox weakness.

Also, the 02 has a slightly better powercurve, Excel rims, much better stock chain, and slightly slower steering geometry (more stable).

My 01 RM 125 is GREAT! The only thing I have trouble with is starting-in-gear.. The clutches are really weak, but they will last the same as other bikes as long as you don't abuse it.. I would reccomend the 2002 RM, but you can't go wrong with either one!

Thanks for the info everybody! It looks like the 2002 hasn't got the flaws the previous RMs had. Can anybody confirm that? Or are the 2002's to young to have the flaws already? And do you think the 2002 RM is as reliable as an YZ?

I have a 2002 RM250. It has held up just as well as my friend's CRF450. I have not had to spend any money to fix anything on the bike that I didn't break myself in a crash or something like that. Don't believe MXA!

i know the 2001 rm125 kicked ass when i rode my friends, the 2002's i hear do as well, i havnt rode one but your question was also that the yz top-end last longer than the rm 125's. well actually no top-end lasts longer than the other, its the way you ride it, overrevving i can fry a top-end, also jetting it too lean can do it, and also the amount of times you clean your filter, be sure to clean your airfilter after every ride it will make your piston and ring last alot longer
